The Long Road to Edo
A downloadable game
A game inspired by Japanese folklore. The Okuri-Inu/Okuri-Okami is a spirit (or yokai) said to haunt mountain passages, hungry for travelers foolish enough to take to the roads by themselves. Keep an ear out for the chi chi chi cry of the night-sparrow, another such yokai that warns travelers when the Okuri-Inu is near.
The road to Edo is long, and you are not alone. The Okuri-Inu follows you, step for step. Do not show weariness, do not stumble, do not try to turn back or the beast will surely be upon you.
Can you survive the Long Road to Edo?
This game was made using William Lentz' Second Guess System and has not been heavily playtested. Very big thank you to Kay, Armandah and Dvaleris for helping me get my first project off the ground! Your support has been everything. <3

Hi harvestmouse,
Could I commission you to write a sequel; The Road Home From Edo? I would love a "book-end" to wrap this up with, on the assumption that your traveller makes it to Edo. I could do this on my own, I guess, using the original as a template; but I like the way you arrange words.
Your fan in Florida,
Andy
That's not a bad idea at all! I will definitely consider it, thank you very much Andy!
What an incredible and lovely game. Thank you, Harvestmouse. I just bought your Long Road to Edo and had about a 50 minute adventure. Looking back at my journal, it was random and beautiful and visceral but deadly. My first travelling merchant, pure of heart and too naïve, perished on his journey. I'm actually a little sad but more determined than ever to see the trip completed now. Thank you again; well written prompts and an easy mechanic made this first adventure very worth it.

What kind words, thank you so much! There's no way you could have known, but I definitely needed to hear that today. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and enjoyed it enough to play it again no less! Safe travels on the road to Edo, friend. <3
